Colleen is a dedicated mother of two and a wonderful addition to our Bringing Hope Home Family. Her breast cancer diagnosis came in February of 2022 and was followed by chemotherapy treatment. Colleen, with a three year old and a five-week-old at the time of her diagnosis, spoke about how her sons provided her with such joy throughout her treatment. As difficult as it was taking care of a newborn and a toddler while undergoing cancer treatment, Colleen said they are the ones who “got them through it”.
Colleen describes her cancer journey as a whirlwind – she felt as if she were in constant survival mode. She is now looking forward to normalcy, and cannot wait to be able to go out and do things with her family in the coming months. Colleen shared that her little boy’s favorite place is the beach, and they are hoping to take a trip this year!
Through the Light of Hope Family Grant Program, Bringing Hope Home assisted Colleen with her mortgage payment, provided Acme gift cards for groceries, and supported Colleen and her family through the 2022 Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program. Colleen said BHH “helped in so many unexpected ways,” and she is forever grateful. When asked what advice she has for those who have been newly diagnosed with cancer, Colleen said to “accept help and always say yes when things are offered”.
Thank you for bravely sharing your story with us, Colleen. We are so grateful to have you in our Bringing Hope Home Family!
