What is the name of your school and/or student group?
Garnet Valley High School’s 9th grade class.
How are you involved with BHH?
We teach a course titled High School 101 for our 9th grade class. This course has 6 sections. We were looking for a local charity to support through this class when I met Caitlin Mahon who runs the Students Bringing Hope Program for BHH. We decided it would be a great fit.
Tell us more about your involvement: What did you like about it?
Bringing Hope Home spoke to each section about their mission and inspired the students to get involved. Each section was paired with a BHH family, making our fundraising efforts really meaningful. Each class came up with different fundraising ideas such as bake sales, Krispy Kreme donut sales, and hot chocolate sales to fundraise & support the families. Our favorite part was being able to receive the stories of the families we were helping.
How did it feel knowing you made such a positive impact on local families with cancer?
The students were thrilled with the success they had in helping fundraise for these families. They really loved hearing the stories of the families they were helping. It gave them a personal connection which made them even more proud when they were able to hit their fundraising goals & support these families going through a tough time.
Any future fundraising/volunteer plans?
We really hope to make this an annual project for our 9th grade class!
