Mike’s Story of HOPE

Mike: The Good Vibes Ambassador

Mike, known to many as the “Good Vibes Ambassador,” exemplifies resilience, dedication and kindness in every step of his journey. A proud single dad of two boys and a loving grandfather, Mike has returned to his roots, moving back to the area where he was born and raised. A dedicated, self-proclaimed Philly sports guy, Mike also enjoys music and coaching basketball for his church youth group.

Mike’s story is one of unwavering and renewed faith. When his best friend introduced him to her church, Mike decided to dedicate his life to God. He hopes to offer anything he can to help others and “make a difference in the world.”

Starting his career at Campbell’s Soup in Camden, New Jersey, Mike has continued to work for a company he genuinely values. Throughout his cancer journey, the support he received from his employer, Church & Dwight, was vital. They provided him with time and flexibility needed to focus on his health, which allowed him to stay positive and hopeful for the future. It’s easy to see why he was recognized as the “Good Vibes Ambassador” by his work family!

As a cancer survivor, Mike faced his health challenges with optimism, faith, and determination. While he was fortunate that the side effects were not too intense, the fatigue he experienced was difficult. He considered himself lucky to have been spared many of the other side effects.

Mike believes the early encouragement he received from his family, best friend, co-workers, and neighbors was vital to him maintaining his strength and focus during this time. Coupled with the support he received from his social worker, Alyssa, his care team, and Bringing Hope Home. During treatment, Bringing Hope Home’s assistance provided some breathing room by helping with a rent payment and providing gift cards to purchase groceries. He is deeply appreciative of the opportunity to share his journey with Bringing Hope Home and to let HOPE Nation know that he is here to help if anyone needs him.

Mike shared his philosophy for getting through challenges:

Five things to get you through a challenge:

  • Have a strong faith – lean into it.
  • Have faith in your providers – kindness doesn’t cost anything and giving it back matters.
  • Lean on the support of family and friends – even a text or note can mean a lot.
  • Maintain a HUGE positive attitude – use challenges as motivation.
  • Keep fit and do what you can to move your body daily. It’s important to stay in good shape, but also to listen to your body.

In closing, Mike shared that having his grandchildren there when he “rang the bell” was a very meaningful and joyful day. He also offered a quote that reflects his philosophy on facing challenges and helping others: “You have a choice – you can either diminish the world, or you can enhance the world. What choice are you going to make?”

Thank you, Mike, for sharing your story with HOPE Nation!
