Chinita’s Story of HOPE

Chinita Bradshaw became a member of our Bringing Hope Home Family in February of 2023. After a hard battle with Covid and losing her mother in 2020, she hit rock bottom. Chinita went through an extensive and demanding recovery from Covid and the loss of her mom, only to be diagnosed with endometrial cancer not long after. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy starting in June of 2022. Chinita fell into a deep depression and did her best to take things day by day, just trying to keep her head above water. In the midst of her battle, she learned about Bringing Hope Home through her social worker, JoAnne, through a friend of hers who was supported through the program, and again while doing community service. “It was so needed, it helped me out so much. I just want to thank everybody involved.” Through the Light of Hope Family Program, Bringing Hope Home was able to make payments toward Chinita’s car insurance, cell phone, gas, and water bills, as well as provide Acme gift cards for grocery support. This support, Chinita says, provided her with the relief to get her through.

Chinita is an active member of her community and her biggest attribute is giving back through service and volunteering. In fact, she and her friend participated in a program that ensures the people of Philadelphia are given access to the resources they need. She mentors public school students through the Foster Grandparent Program and tutors a student in her community. Chinita also loves to participate in any race or 5k in her community by volunteering her time to cheer on the racers!

Chinita’s biggest piece of advice is to “Get people in your life who will be there when you need it most, and make sure you are there for people too.”

Chinita retired from working in a mental health clinic and decided to shift gears toward a passion of hers, children. She is a wonderful and devoted mother, aunt and grandma who finds joy in creating fun and nurturing environments for her grandkids, nieces, and nephews.

Thank you for sharing your story with HOPE Nation, Chinita! We are blessed to have you in our BHH Family.
