Dr. Karen Dickinson is a certified school counselor and associate professor at West Chester University. Today, the BHH Team was lucky enough to spend the afternoon with Dr. Dickinson, learning the best counseling practices to better serve our families. Karen stressed the importance of active listening and how to convey your thoughts and emotions over the phone through your tone, affect, and verbal cues.

“Listen for the feeling,”

Karen said, when asked about communicating with our families.

“Listen for what they are feeling and affirm that you hear what they are saying.”

We are looking forward to putting these new skills into practice as we talk to our families each day.

Thank you Dr. Dickinson for a being a light of hope to the BHH Team and ultimately, the families we serve.
